PSYC 2021 Study Guide - Midterm Guide: Standard Score, Percentile, Percentile Rank
Document Summary
The relationship between samples and populations are usually defined in terms of probability: begin with a population and then use probability to describe the samples that could be obtained. 2 stage process of reaching inferential stats: (inferential states = backwards of probability: develop probability as a bridge from populations to samples identifying the types of samples that probably would be obtained from a specific population. Once the bridge is established, we simply reverse the probability rules to allow us to move from samples to population (we use samples to make inferences: jar 1: 50 black. 50 white, low probability to get 4 blacks jar 2 90 black 10 white, high probability of getting all 4 blacks. Probability predicts the type of samples that are likely to be obtained from a population. Inferential stats uses sample data to make conclusions about a population.
