Saw large number of thin dark lines in solar spectrum. *starting point of understanding something is to classify it. Saw definite and distinct pattern of lines on sun spectrum. Started to look at diff objects in sky (sun, venus, diff planets/stars, etc) Found that diff stars had diff line patterns. So initially thought that each star has a totally unique spectrum. Studied the flame and spark of light generated by highly purified samples of various salts. Light from flame goes through slit that gets magnified through a telescope.
