To understand privacy we have to understand the relationship of individual. In ancient greece privacy were not really valued and was relegated to women while the men were meant to live out in the public as individuals. Public admiration determined your importance as a individual. You want to be seen - to be admired - your value was the value of your public person. People couldn"t be out in the public and if they were, they had to cover themselves beginning of a positive valuation of privacy on secular grounds. The rise of the private study in the home - where your individualism may go unchecked. It all begin in the theory of individualism- what it means to be an individual.
