Cell is a factory: nucleus is the core and responsible for all productivity, cell repair, coding, etc. Cell structure and function: trillions of cells in the human body classified into 200 cell types, plasma membrane. Selectively controls movement of molecules in and out of cell: nucleus. Serves as genetic blueprint for cell replication. Rough er: studded with ribosomes, synthesizes proteins to be secreted to exterior or to be allowed into plasma membrane or other cell components (each ribosome makes a certain protein) Smooth er: packages the secretory product into transport vesicles; these leave and move to golgi complex: golgi complex. Consists of stacks of flattened curved, membrane- enclosed sacs. It modifies, packages, and distributes newly synthesized proteins.
