He reformed the church within his realm, eliminating abuses, creating an efficiently run system of oversight and improving the education of the clergy. He also entered negotiation with the byzantine empire trying to re-establish the east west framework of the ancient roman empire. In the end his empire died with him as following his death his lands were divided among his sons and the holy roman empire became an ever changing kaleidoscope of glued together kingdoms and principalities.
