Document Summary

Grounded theory: the way you design a study and understand that it is a systemic qualitative procedure. We do it in order to generate a theory that explains either a process action or interaction of your topic. Conceptualization: concepts occur as you are analysing the data. Start with open-coding: open yourself to different potentials to open transcripts like maps, documents, lyrics in a song, art etc. opening yourself up to anything that can be relevant to your topic. After the interview you may have a 20 hour transcript. Codes from sample transcript shown on powerpoint: own home, lonely. Going from flat" list to a hierarchy: close, generalised friendships, making new friends- same sex, making new friends- different sex.
