BIOL 2040 Study Guide - Radiography, Immunodeficiency
Document Summary
In the 30s it was noted that cancer was transmittable via milk in rats. Papillomavirus can cause cancers in rabbits: late 1950s. Polyoma virus [mouse] shown to induce solid tumors. Can also affect those who are immunocomprimised: 60s-70s. How will it be distributed because it doesn"t spread through populations. Human viruses that induce cancers hadn"t been found at that time. 1910s: several studies show that x-rays can induce cancer. 1920s: muller demonstrated that x-rays can cause heritable mutations. Genetic material can be changed and cause cancer. Sometimes can even be passed on: genetic abnormalities are the cause for cancer (seen on both viral line and the chemical/physical line)
