Community psychology takes a step back from the individual to look at the society. Abnormal psychology and personality psychology look at the individual; the problem is with the person thus the person must change, problem is not with society. Being gay used to be considered a mental disorder, a problem with individuals rather than society. Looks at insitutions and what is defined as a problem. Solutions can be located within communities, leads mental health issues in the individuals to go away. The problem with our culture is that bc problems are so easily located in the individuals (people responsible for themselves) we blame people for their issues. A form of experiential education in which students engage in activities that address human and community needs together with structured opportunities intentionally designed to promote student learning and development. Come into placements to work with people on a path to improve everything around them rather than on a path to fix them.
