Interactionists: everything about language is influenced by its communicative function, it develops through hearing it/ communicating and interaction. Phonemes specialization to native language (6 12months: operant conditioning: parents selectively reinforce sounds that are most like words, Successive approximation (gradually shape language): language development is due to imitation, reinforcement and generalization, child is passive, development is driven by input.
