Those times japanese buildings were mostly inspired by the chinese architecture. Japan was led by the military gures and the imperial family was powerless. Then japan moved towards becoming closed o to the rest of world and not being in uenced by the foreign cultures anymore. New set of developments started occurring in japan. This building is intentionally very simple surrounded by gardens; not a huge palace w/ Chinese background like the ones built by military. A di erent kind of house as a retrieve from other foreign cultures, ore of a japanese prototype. Little buildings known as tea houses in the garden for tea ceremony which is very relaxing and a way to separate urself from the worries of everyday life. Plan of the building is irregular w/ no symmetry and there has been no attempt to x this. The oor is covered w/ mats and the rooms are separated by very thin walls.
