(A2- P5), If you see a full round superior colliculus and no pineal body then you would have all the
thalamic nuclei (you could also look for more formed lateral ventricles), you would also see the internal
capsule behind the caudate nucleus and the putamen slightly behind that, parallel to the septal
nucleus
(A1,A2-P5)- beside the thick white and on he cut surface of the cerebellum would be the paraflocculus
(A3,P5)- at the thin cut layer of the superior colliculus, you would see the fimbria at the anterior pointy
tip of the dentate gyrus, the thin white band moving anteriorally is the extreme capsule and the area
behind of the caudate nucleus (the middle of the brain), slightly white is the globus pallidus
CAN YOU SEE THE GLOBUS PALLIDUS+EXTREME CAPSULE AND THE PUTMEN+INTERNAL CAPSULE IN
THE SAME CUT?----YES
(B1.P5) You see agdala at the leel hee ou a’t see the spae fo the lateral ventricle but you
see at genu of corpus callosum (U) or septohypothalamic and septotubercular tract (v), amygdala is
located directly rostral to the dentate gyrus
^^at this same view you can see the line for the III ventricle that leads to the cerebral aqueduct and the
central gray (looks like a vagina)
^^beside the line for the III ventricle rostral in the ventral thalamic nucleus but behind it is the
habenulo-interpeduncular tract
^^the flap that contains the dentate gyrus is lateral to a wavy edge that contains the LGB (rostral) and
MGB (caudal)
(B2,P5) small hole for the III ventricle and the fornix surrounds it
(C1,P6a)- cut C is the first coronal cut off the front the brain so it MAY be thicker, the claustrum and
putae ae a it oe edial tha usual eause it’s a egiig ut, lateal etile tuked
underneath the genu, and the subcallosal fasciculus is tucked in the top corner
(C2,P6a)-the lateral olfactory tract lines the bottom W shape and is slightly darker
(D1, P6a)- you see more of the lateral ventricles so you see body of cc, anterior commissure near the
curve of the base W and near the middle curve at the edge you see the olfactory tubercle (IN THIS CUT
THE LATERAL OLFACTORY TRACT IS 3D AND STICKS OUT THE BOTTOM)
(D3/D4,P6A)- if you see the septal nucleus instead of the sht and stt then beside it the ventral white
matter near the curve of the W is globus pallidus
(E1,P6a)- if you see the optic chiasm (feces) then you would also see the column of fornix and the
preoptic area beside the middle column
(E3,P6a)- he ou see the ut detahed opti hias that’s the last tie ou see glous pallidus
(F1,P6a)- you see the thick fused band of optic chiasm, and you see structures in the space of the
lateal etile looks like a fae that’s fornix, at this cut you see fornix lateral to the III ventricle line
near the top and caudal to that it the hypothalamus, following the curve of the optic chasm in the
corner you see amygdala
(F2,P6a)- as soon as you see the optic chiasm extend along the bottom into the structure then you see
the optic tract, you still see the hypothalamus at the same spot, at the corners of the fimbria
(G1,P6a)- if thee is a deep it hee the lateal etile usuall is ut ude the foi that’s the III
ventricle, and linging the bottm of that opening is the stria medullaris, if you small ball like structures at
the bottom of the cut in the center it is the mammillary body immediately above that is the fornix and
above that is the mammillothalamic tract near the curve of the little cut that was the whole III ventricle
(G2,P6a)- the base looks like the wu tang clan symbol and in the base center is the cut mammillary
body, if there is a straight cut through the center , that space is the III ventricle and the medial section
of meat beside it is the medial thalamic nucleus, and lateral from that is the ventral thalamic nucleus
(G3-P6a)- you see the cut of the hippocampal formation and you see the dentate gyrus and the
dentate gyrus is resting on 2 small bumps which is the habenula, you still see the mammillothalamic
tract and fornix near the base of the curve
