I believe that rape culture is a gendered issue based on the fact that women are taught to not get raped rather than men being taught not to rape. It is a belief system that encourages male sexual aggression and supports violence against women. This reflects on the normalization of victim blaming, slut shaming, rape jokes, as well as harassment. In this environment, the normalization of violence against women as well as physical and emotional terrorism tends to be excused in the media and popular culture. Rape culture is perpetuated through the use of objectification of women"s bodies, glamorization, and the creation of a society that disregards women"s rights and safety. This creates a society that functions females being in a subordinate position to the male population. This creates fear and in that fear men don"t rape and women are never considered victims of rape.
