Concerns about sexual activity leading to a population explosion, side-by-side with the fact that selling contraceptives was illegal, meant that advertising contraceptives needed to be treated very delicately. A: sexually explicit material would lead to an increase in the population that would overtax diminishing natural resources. Vibrators were advertised in the early 1900s in magazines and disguised as messaging devices for health rather than sexual pleasure.
