Document Summary

Would like to dwell deeper into the subject after seeing thrasymachus back off. Good in itself apart from its consequences, so that we welcome it for our own sake. Good because of its consequences and for its own sake. People consider it to be only instrumentally good. People do justice just for the rewards and popularity. They want to avoid a reoccurrence to them again. This way, they come to an agreement with other to not be unjust. If everyone agrees to be just, you have the desirable consequence of never having to suffer injustice. No one values it for its own sake, they would much prefer to be unjust. Those lacking the power to do injustice and to avoid suffering it come to an agreement to not do and suffer injustice. The desire to outdo others and get more and more. Justice: artificial creation backed by law and a perversion.
