Socialized and taught how to behave through various forms of conditioning. States that often when relatively minor laws are broken, the community tends to overreact. In relation to the labeling theory and make a rather large out of it (dramatizing it) Example: when a youth sprays graffiti on a street sign and the neighborhood ostracizes that youth. 5 techniques: denial of responsibility, denial of injury, denial of victim, condemnation of the condemners, appeal to higher loyalties.
