In this report, i am interested in using the quality of government dataset to examine the relationship between corruption and disappearances. My reasoning for this hypothesis is quite simple. Disappearances" refer to cases in which people have gone missing and never been found and in which a political motivation" for such disappearance seems likely. People disappearing at the hands of political actors indicates that, at least in part, government officials have played a role in the disappearances and have done so by abusing their power in a way that benefitted themselves. These motivations are hallmarks of corruption, so citizens in countries where disappearances are more common will likely rate their government as more corrupt on the corruption perception index scale. The dependent variable in my hypothesis is corruption, or more specifically, citizens" perception of governmental corruption rated on an index scale.
