Document Summary

Developmental psychology: is the study of reoccurring psychological changes. This area of study focuses on the development that occurs between the prenatal period to middle or even late adulthood. Development happens in every specie that exists because niches are created when animals die off. These niches need to be filled by new individuals for the specie to thrive. Plato/aristotle- were interested in whether or not the development of a child is attributed to inborn factors or environmental factors (whether or not development relies on nature or nurture). Plato was a nativist where for him development is drawn mainly from internal forces like genes. Aristotle was a empiricist where all knowledge depends on experience. John locke was an empiricist where he believed that a newborn"s mind was a blank slate. Jean-jacques rousseau- was a nativist that believed that all children had a plan for development and already have a sense of right and wrong.
