Document Summary

Describe one nursing situation you encountered this week. I got a new patient this week for week 2 and was able to experience the care of a patient who has many respiratory health problems. This patient"s respiratory comorbidity was copd and was an ex-smoker. His initiate diagnosis when he was admitted to the hospital was pneumonia. He had to undergo and thoracotomy, right upper lobe lobectomy, right lower lobe wedge resection and chest wall resection and reconstruction for a large right-sided lung adenocarcinoma. After the surgery, there were some complications that occur. The patient ended up having an empyema in the right side of his chest and had to go to the or again. While they were performing a pleurectomy for the empyema, they found that he had a bronchopleural fistula and had to pack his chest. During my time taking care of this patient, i was able to work with a chest tube for the first time.
