Producing data: need data to produce good results as well as get quality answers in which we are trying to research on or observe. Helps us decide what to measure in order to produce the data that will help address concerns. Observational studies: choose what variable you want to measure, observe a lot by watching. Sample surveys: take a small sample of a general population, represent the larger group, one type of observational study. Census: sample survey that attempts to include entire population in sample, very expensive, accuracy is difficult to measure, attempt to measure an entire population. Experiment: give good evidence that treatment causes a response. Convenience sampling: selected because they are easiest to reach. Voluntary response sample: chooses itself by responding to general appeal, writing in or calling in opinions polls. Parameter : is a number that describes the population. A parameter is a fixed number, but in practice we don"t know the actual value of this number.
