Important in oral cultures to pass down info: had no written traditions, replied to spoken word to get info across so had to use mnemonics so that info was as accurate as possible. Must recall these objects in the same order to remember. Peg word method: learning/recall of information by associating it to a familiar objects. 1 = bun, bun has milk being poured on it. 2 = shoe, shoe kicks bread and it breaks. Key word method: when learning foreign language, 2 pieces of information are linked together by associating a bizarre image to the word to remember. Duck = potto, imagine a duck wearing a pot and stumbling around. 1st letter method: use acronyms (usually) to remember long list of words in order. Every good boy deserves fudge (opposite, remember the musical lines)
