When a person has freedom from external control. Non-humans/animals do not have autonomy -> instinct and habit. Humans are self-aware and aware of our own mortality. The human mind is unique because it has linguistic capacity. Our language is such that we can hypothesize, reject, repudiate, refute, regret, promise, honour, reason ect . This means that there are multiple forms/ways of teaching. Possibility that there is no best way to teach. May range from instructing to sympathetic listening. Schooling is a tool for socializing, training, and educating. Education is a process that involves the development of a human being. Gallie (cid:498)many perhaps, but not any(cid:499) i. e. (cid:498)what is happiness(cid:499) there is no correct answer. A term that is value loaded i. e. educated is a normative concept because it is generally regarded as a positive feature. Ugly is a normative concept because it is generally regarded as bad. True in the moment but can change.
