For first time in history child abuse was defined as something other than normal/unquestioned form of parental discipline. Parents had strict authority - and reinforced through media schools and religious organizations. Children left vulnerable to child abuse from those they rely on for physical survival + emotional well being. Definitions of child abuse: physical abuse. Intentional act of physical injury inflicted on a child by an adult caregiver: emotional abuse + psychological abuse. Pattern of emotionally destructive behavior perpetrated by an adult caregiver on a child. Ex. rejection, isolation or terrorization of child: sexual abuse. Incest which adult caregiver or family member forces/ manipulates a child into a sexual; act for the purpose of satisfying the sexual desires of that family member sexual exploitation - forced into sex acts / pornography. Caregiver fails to provide for child"s basic physical, educational, emotional and psychological survival needs intentionally / unintentionally.
