Document Summary
Research is important to all psychology- including clinical psychology. Psychology: the scientific study of the mind, brain and behaviour. Sociocultural influences: social or behavioural level, involves relating to others and personal relationships. psychological: mental or neurological level. Actions are multiply determined: psychological influences are rarely independent, individuals differences among people. Reciprocal determinism: behaviour is shaped by culture. We seem to be standing still but the earth is rotating around the sun 30 km/sec. Science is not a body of knowledge (ie. chemistry or physics) An explanation for a large number of findings in the natural world. Tendency to seek evidence that supports our hypothesis. Tendency to stick to ur initial beliefs even when evidence is contradictory. The don"t confuse me with the facts bias. Assertions about the world that are not testable. Sets of claims that seem scientific but lack defenses from bias. 5% are tested , meaning they are pseudoscientific. Apophenia: tendency to perceive meaningful connections among unrelated phenomena.
