Document Summary
Music and sound effects are used while dialogue is used minimally if at all. Coordination of movement and music was difficult but it helped paved the way for advancements in the timing of music and film. Disney series titled silly symphonies produced many popular short stories. Singing is featured in several cartoons including three little pigs (1933) with the hit song who"s afraid of the big bad wolf? . Exploitation of the full range of orchestral colours. Reliance upon the melody dominated post-romantic style. Establishment of the principle themes and moods during opening title and credits. Musical support for dramatic moods, settings, characters and actions. The score by erich korngold is remarkable for it"s length, colourful orchestration, dramatic support and thematic transformation. Fight scenes are essential and korngold employs: Full symphonic orchestration, loud dynamics, passages of quick notes, irregular and hard accents, and occasional motivic references. Association of themes is loose and implies an underlying connection of characters.
