Document Summary
Wagner"s greatest achievement includes his revolutionary concept of the total artwork. Individual arts could not achieve their highest level of perfection by themselves. One of the challenges he faced, was that arts do not naturally mix. Two basic types of art= visual (spatial) arts and temporal arts. Principal efforts to combine visual and temporal arts took place in the theater. Wagner"s conception included full control with a single vision for all of the arts. Not allowing musicians to be seen and no clapping aimed to create illusions. His role as the dominant director assimilated into the art of the film. Placement (music as the opening and closing frames) Opening credits can alert the audience, show main themes, foreshadow, set the mood etc. Closing credits reprise musical ideas or create exiting ambience. Overture= meant to precede the beginning of the film. Entr"acte= precedes the resumption of the film after the intermission.
