Psyc 2301 sept 11, 2017: humoral theory - proposed that the body has 4 diff. types of fluids (blood, black bile, yellow bile, phelgm). An excess of any of these fluids, would cause sickness. Therefore, to heal them, you would need to restore this balance. First to link the type of imbalance to personality: galen, also believed in humoral theory, made important discoveries about the brain, circulatory system, and kidney through dissection, became aware that illness can be localized. Ill(cid:374)ess (cid:449)as (cid:272)o(cid:374)sidered to (cid:271)e god(cid:859)s pu(cid:374)ish(cid:373)e(cid:374)t for evildoing: the priest was functioned as physicians, fun fact: the priest sometimes ordered the sick to perform a pilgrimage to cure their illness.
