Approaches to treatment can be classified into three main categories: Insight therapies ( talk therapy ) when clients engage in complex verbal interactions with their therapists. Behaviour therapies which make direct efforts to alter problematic responses and maladaptive behaviour. Biomedical therapies which involves interventions into a person"s biological functioning. Clients bring a wide variety of problems to therapy, a client doesn"t have to have an identifiable psychological disorder in order to seek therapy; people vary in their willingness to seek treatment. Clinical psychologists and counselling psychologists specialize in diagnosing and treating psychological disorders (more clinical) and everyday behavioural problems (more counselling) Psychiatrists are doctors who specialize in the diagnosis & treatment of psychological disorders, emphasise drug therapy. Psychiatric nurses play a large role in hospital inpatient treatment. Clinical social workers general work with patients and families to ease patient"s integration back into the community. Counsellors often specialize in particular types of problems e. g. vocational, martial, rehabilitation, drug etc.
