SCLG2616 Final: exam notes -power and the environment
Document Summary
Power as the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behaviour of others or the course of development is based on the concentration of political or economic comparative advantages. Countries are positioned differently within the flows and processes of global trade and commodity flows. For less developed countries to compete and succeed in the global economy, they must undercut the competition in various ways such as offering lower wages, poorer working conditions, longer hours, ever- escalating pressure and demands. As a result of market pressures and a need for new markets and capital, people are deliberately expelled from the system in the form of mass incarcerations, land displacements and mortgage foreclosure crisis. International organisations such as the world bank is dominated by rich developed nations. This can be seen in the world bank loans, which favor countries whose economies sometimes did not need such loans.
