60% of radiographs taken worldwide- most commonly performed. Used to see heart + lungs (thoracic viscera) Pneumonia: cancer, cardiac disease congestive heart failure (chf, pulmonary disease. Pulmonary oedema abnormal build up of fluid within the tissue of the lung: pleural disease. Chronic obstructive airways/pulmonary disease e. g. asthma or emphysema. Follow up for any of the conditions above. Long wet hair, particularly plaits will show on an image. Patient can feel more confidence in the procedure. Allows you to test the equipment first. Before a female has an x-ray you must make sure she is not pregnant. Both pa and lateral are performed with a grid to minimize scatter on the final image. You would increase the ma to reduce the time, in doing so you would reduce movement unsharpness heart is constantly moving and some people cannot hold position for very long.
