A block of mass 451 g is pushed against the spring (located ontheleft-hand side of the
track) and compresses the spring a distance 4.7 cm fromitsequilibrium position . The block starts from rest, isacceleratedby the compressed spring,and slides across africtionlesshorizontal track(as shown in the figure below). Itleaves the trackhorizontally, flies through the air, andsubsequently strikes theground.

The acceleration of gravity is 9.81 m/s2 .
