To a scintillation vial, add aluminum chloride (22 mmol) and quickly cap the vial. Cautiously add aluminum chloride to the solution of anisole Use a Pasteur pipet to wash any adherent aluminum chloride into the flask with a little dichloromethane. Add acetic anhydride (1.0 mL) dropwise while the solution is stirring. Fit the round bottom flask with a water-cooled reflux condenser. At a low heat setting, gently reflux the solution for 30 minutes.
