Document Summary
Philosophers are interested in reasonableness, rationality, or coherence, independent of truth. Divided into philosophy of religion proper and philosophical theology. Anything that was not mere theism and abstracted from all particular religions was considered theology. In the earlier and mid-twentieth century, jesus"s resurrection could be covered within philosophical theology, but not in philosophy proper. God - seen as a necessary being who is characterized by omniscient (all-knowing), omnipotent (all-powerful), omnibenevolence (perfect goodness), immutability, and eternity, who has freely created the world and is related to morality; unique as well. Moses maimonides - argues that our language is not capable of representing god and that terms applied to god and creatures are equivocal (ambiguous). Pantheism - rejects the distinction between god and creation; belief that all reality is identical with divinity. Ontological - tries to show a perfect being must exist. Cosmological - existence of the world demonstrates an existence of a transcendent cause.
