In nursing practice, professional competence is a crucial requirement, although it requires much effort and discipline to achieve. As a result, such an inability to function well may have a negative impact on trust and confidence in the nursing profession. While incompetency triggers many risks, including wrong administration of drugs and sometimes death, reporting such cases can be challenging because the process entails a high risk but low benefit. Ascertaining a colleague"s incompetency is not only difficult but also a challenge to establishing how to deal with such incompetency. Besides, there is the moral aspect of hindering nurses from reporting incompetence and other malpractices as exhibited by their fellow nurses. Another issue with reporting incompetent nursing practices is that nurses are sometimes instructed to carry out duties beyond their certified skills, which means their bosses have a role to play in their incompetence.
