Science proves or disproves theories: theories are ideas based on facts (not a fact, testing hypotheses with collected data, colors of stars: brightest have color to naked eye, constellations = patterns of stars recognized by humans. Sky"s motion is us recognizing the sky"s position relative to the earth"s rotation: stars visible on the celestial equator make a perfect circle, stars visible closer to the poles make smaller circles, stars on the pole don"t move. Stars rise and set according to the earth"s rotation: they will appear in different places during different times of the year. Stars in east rise earlier (appear higher) and in the west set earlier (appear closer to the horizon) Sun "higher" and longer days: winter = southern pole facing away. Full moon: can see the entire moon (2 weeks: waxing crescent: thin part of side of moon lit up. Eclipses: when one object passes another and a shadow appears.
