BIO 171.01 Quiz: Cell Organelle Infographic

21 views1 pages

Document Summary

Also known as golgi body or golgi complex, this organelle seems to look like stacked sacs of enclosed membranes. This can only be found in eukaryotic cells. Its location in a cell is in the cytoplasm; near the endoplasmic reticulum and the nucleus. It chemically modifies and sorts proteins as well as lipid molecules that come from the endoplasmic reticulum. It synthesizes glycoproteins and glycolipids by adding carbohydrates to the proteins and lipids it receives. It packages the modified products into vesicles for transport to lysosomes, the plasma membrane, or outside of the cell. Cells would not be able to equip proteins and lipids for transmission to places within or outside the cell. This would have a negative impact on various organs of plants and animals. Lysosomes form on the golgi apparatus, so without the golgi, there would not be any lysosomes that will break down waste products, which keep the cell from dying rapidly.
