Doing a summary helps us learn to determine essential ideas and consolidate important details that support them. It enables us to focus on keywords and phrases of an assigned text that are worth noting and remembering. Summarizing helps us to focus on the main ideas and extract them from a text. After extracting the main points, it becomes easy for us to write an essay or any other analytical paper because we would have all the relevant information. In addition, summarizing helps us to improve our comprehension skills and vocabulary. Moreover, summarizing makes the task of reading easier and more interesting and we can also remember the information for a longer period of time. Take note of the tone of the article/text. Write your summary in your own words. Use complete sentences with good transition words. Identify certain notions or arguments that seem to be repeated throughout. Don"t use first and second person point of view.
