Coralline algae pavement, flat as pavement.
Algal turf, look and feel like real, spongy, grass turf
Same consistency as walking on a soccer field
Its algae not grass
Short, fish graze on it
Small area of turf could have 200 species of it
Important food source
Reef flat macroalgae
Big + fleshy
Halimeda
Important algae on reefs
Green links, sometimes will loose pigment and be white
Fine plates on sand is halimeda
It can make 80% of the sand on the reef
Reef algae productivity ( g C m-2*d-1)

Can grow in thick mats

Document Summary

Algal turf, look and feel like real, spongy, grass turf. Same consistency as walking on a soccer field. Small area of turf could have 200 species of it. Green links, sometimes will loose pigment and be white. It can make 80% of the sand on the reef. Reef algae productivity ( g c m-2*d-1) Fleshy chlorophyte /fleshy green algae = caulerpa is one. Differentiated, heavily corticated, thick walled calcified , genicula, flexible intergeniculate. Know functional forms + an example from each exam. Algae is different colors due to different pigments which absorb different wavelength of light. All algae have chlorophyll a ( blue/orange) Green algae have chlorophyll b ( all blue, and yellow and red ; appear green) Brown algae have auxiliary pigments such a fucoxanthin that expands absorption into the green wavelengths and all them to proliferate at intermediate depths.
