Document Summary

Model organism-an organism that you chose to do your work on because it is practical and the data can be applied to other organisms. Gene-a hereditary factor that influences a particular trait. Hereditable traits-traits that are passed down to their offspring. Phenotype-the results of the expression of the gene-the physical aspect of the gene, what you see, an individuals observable traits. Genotype-what type of genes you have, a listing of the alleles in an indivdual. The chromosomes theory of inheritance-mendel-is that the behavior of the chromosomes during meiosis is going to affect inheritance. Two repeating hypothesis at the time: blending inheritance hypothesis-heritable traits from the mother and father blended together in the offspring. Inheritance of acquired characters-the behavior of the parent during their lifetime that affects that inheritance of characteristics in the offspring. Ex: giraffe stretching neck in his lifetime to reach the leaves would cause the offspring to have a longer neck.
