Defined as a system by which society ranks categories of people in a hierarchy. These categories can lead to the patterned social inequality: social inequality the unequal sharing of resources and social rewards. Stratification persists because it is backed up by an ideology: people are stubborn on changing their beliefs and judgements based on what they already believe to be true, ideologies are ingrained into most societies about classes and stratification. Principles of stratification: it is a characteristic of a society, not simply a reflection of individual differences.
