The poor have shorter life expectancies, at greater risk for chronic illnesses, infectious diseases, newborns are at greater risk of dying within their first year, have low birth weight. Poor women are less likely to receive prenatal care. Poor people are more stressed, and more likely to smoke, drink and do drugs.
