More effective than the sum of its parts. Depends on shared responsibility for participation and decision making. Collaborative teaming needs to have a common goal that is specific. Collaboration = a style for direct interaction between at least two coequal parties voluntarily engaged in shared decision making as they work toward a common goal. (friend & cook, 2016). Educational collaborations (to improve student learning and outcomes - collaborating with specialists, consultants, etc. ) Most research says it deserves its own separate attention. I. d. e. a. expects collaboration - mandated provisions for family participation & lre (least restrictive environment) Includes both special and regular educators, families, paras, etc. Location = other students (are they all special ed or are there gen ed peers present during that instruction) Presumes that students should receive education in general education setting. Must have justification for any placement that is not general ed. Fosters collaborative service delivery; team teaching; using teachers as a resource.
