Friend & cook chapter 8: consultation, coaching, and mentoring. Provide support for students by working with teachers. School consultation is a voluntary process in which one professional assists another to address a problem concerning a third party. Indirect relationship between consultant and client - consultant and consultee design services that consultee provides to client. Consultee may seek assistance of consultant, or consultant may notice difficulties and offer support. Mutually influence each other - consultants do not have authority over consultees. Goal is to problem-solve and support each other. Should include steps/stages: entry, problem identification, planning, implementations, evaluation, exit. Treatment integrity (fidelity of implementation) consistent implementation of services and strategies developed in consultation process. Low-cost and efficient way of meeting needs of individual students. Provides a limited type of services to students at risk. Professional development for teachers - working with other professionals. May choose to use collaborative practices at some stages, and not at others.
