● Before Reading
○ “Learning occurs when the student perceives an importance between the
material presented and his life or world”
○ What students already know (relative to the content) is a strong predictor of what
they will learn
○ Activate prior knowledge (assess what students know and learn about the
misconceptions they might have) - vocabulary knowledge is included in this
■ Multidimensional - may know a lot about one area and not a lot about
another
