Continuation of last lecture, added to lecture 4. Sociology says: we have to understand the societies that create violence. How does society organize itself to commit violence. Sociology says: culture doesn"t create violence, society does. Charles tilly: "war made states, and states made war" Looking at the people within the state in sociology. If we look at society itself, there was a push to create war, expand power, and become stronger. The development of modern states begins with coercion. States band together to unify themselves, and thus survive longer. They get funding by going to their citizens. As long as state and society are on the same page, war is a good thing. As long as there is an agreement between society and state.
