Age of initiation- age at which people become sexual active has come down. Percent sexually active- has gone up- 80% of teens being sexual active. Closing of the gender gap-girls are just as likely to be sexual active as boys- historical boys were more sexually active. Changes in gatekeeping standards- sex with recreational purposes more of the norm( hooking up, friends with benefits) use to be only sex with marriage. Changes in cultural values clearly more widespread acceptance of a recreation and romantic view of sex. Elkind"s concept of the hurried child emphasis on early maturity creates introduces kids to sexual behavior at earlier age combined with less supervision- hurrying you earlier oppuritinites to be sexual active. Prolongation of adolescence and delays in the transition to adulthood-going to delay sexual actitivty until they are 26 years old when they get married- doesn"t make sense.
