Task for couples: establish communication patterns that promote intimacy and manage conflict. Definition of communication: exchange of information in the form of messages. Most of the communication that leads to intimacy is intentional communication, where your goal is to lead to intimacy with your partner. How you feel about a person and your relationship, influences your transactional patterns and your communication process. Intentional communication as opposed to the ongoing exchange of messages. Axioms of communication: things that are always true about communication. One cannot not communicate: whenever you begin to interact with someone you are communicating with them. All communication provides information about self, other and relationship. Information conveyed in the words that i use. Meta-message: the information conveyed and exchanged through body language, tone of voice, eye contact, touch, etc . The meta level of communication provides you with the information that you really need to have in order to really know what message is being really conveyed.
