Imperial spain- history 4451: city had to purchase the right to be a royal city, every royal town has the bar of justice. Ayuntamiento- refers to the building where the council sat. Had to have a main block with the ayuntamiento on one side and a cathedral on the other. Pecho- a tax you have to pay if you aren"t noble. Alcabala- main source of revenue for the crown- supposed to be 10% Encabezamiento- a lump sum voted by the cortez- introduced in 1495. Ferdinand and isabella confiscate a lot of land from the nobles: leyes de toro: 1505- all lands taken from the nobles after 1464 went to the crown. Legal revolution: spain has the oldest law code, university of salamanca is the oldest law school, ferdinand and isabella create three new law courts. No noble gets to vote on the appeals. Procurador- the person who knows the local system- they know the court procedures.
