Document Summary

Both sought to say something about how we form beliefs. Both use the method of introspection (looking inward) Not testing other people to see how they form beliefs; evaluate how they formed their own beliefs. Form beliefs/ idea because they are copies of impressions. We come to a lot of errors, but this is how we introspect/ reach good beliefs. This week"s readings give reasons to cast doubt on introspection. Testing process of problem solving/ how they arrive at solution. Individuals presented with a problem with several solutions; all but one solution was obvious. Two cords hung from ceiling; goal was to tie them together. When difficult solution (pendulum) was found, experiment ended. Anchor used to hold one and then other cord brought over to connect them. While holding one cord, the other was pulled in with a pole. Looking at the people who didn"t naturally get the last solution.
