Lecture 15: if it is easy to leave, leaving by its very nature is much easier than fighting to bring about change, so people will leave. This can be counterbalanced by the level of loyalty: both exit and voice help organizations in decline to improve themselves. P (cid:1011)(cid:1011) (cid:862)the likelihood of (cid:448)oi(cid:272)e increases (cid:449)ith lo(cid:455)alt(cid:455)(cid:863: as loyalty increases, the likelihood of exit decreases and voice increases. P (cid:1011)(cid:1012) (cid:862)lo(cid:455)alt(cid:455) holds e(cid:454)it at (cid:271)a(cid:455)(cid:863: an exit that is super easy is obstructed by your level of loyalty. In retrospect, the recovery may seem easy, but creativity in coming up with new ideas is difficult in the present. However, loyalty helps to balance exit and voice by raising the cost of exit. P 121 towards the bottom (cid:862)exit here is considered as treason, and voice as mutiny.
