Uniform crime reports: based on crimes reported to the police; police send off reports to fbi, cover 97% of the population, most important limitation is not reporting crime. Not that much bias in medical examinations: cdc publishes non-fatal assault injuries. Rates per 100,000 (population over 12 for ncvs), 2014. Homeless people have the highest rate of victimization. Some of these stats are much more believable than others. Overall, every measure we have, some more than others actually understate the amount of crime we have in america. The best measures of crime we have are for homicide. Most of these crimes are not as high as they were 20 or 25 years ago. Rate of crime now is higher than the past. Detroit rate: 44: per 100,000, 2015. Detroit"s rate in 2009 was: 36x the rate in sydney, australia, 100x the rate in tokyo, japan. Cjs is too soft on crime; get tough on crime.
